The Two Worlds of SMS
Not all SMS traffic is treated equally by Mobile Network Operators (MNOs). Understanding the difference between A2P and P2P is crucial for optimizing your wholesale rates and ensuring high deliverability.
A2P (Application-to-Person)
A2P traffic is enterprise messaging. Think 2FA OTP codes, banking alerts, and marketing broadcasts. Operators heavily monetize A2P routes and employ strict firewalls to block 'grey route' bypasses. A2P requires high-quality, direct interconnects to guarantee sub-second delivery for time-critical PIN codes.
P2P (Person-to-Person)
P2P traffic is standard text messaging between two humans. It is generally lower priority and cheaper to route via international hubs. However, sending A2P traffic over P2P routes (SIM farming) is highly illegal in many jurisdictions and will result in immediate sender ID blocking.
NAMX Telecom's Dynamic Routing
At NAMX Telecom, our LCR (Least Cost Routing) engine automatically distinguishes between A2P and P2P payloads. We utilize real-time HLR lookups to dynamically select the correct carrier bind, ensuring 100% compliance and the best possible termination rates.
